Six advance in local PP&K competition

Six Victoria youths advanced to the sectional competition in the NFL Pepsi Punt, Pass and Kick competition after competing Friday in the local event hosted by the Victoria Parks and Recreation Department. Morgan Trevino won the girls 10- to 11-year-old division with a total distance of 104 feet, 9 inches, while Anyssa Hernandez claimed the girls 12-13 title with a 127-5. more >>

Villarreal set for bout

Victoria boxer Jesus Villarreal will be part of today’s HBO fight card in Houston. Villarreal, who fights out of Garcia’s Boxing Club, will take on Rocky Moreno of Houston in a four-round bout as an undercard to the HBO show at the Toyota Center in Houston. Villarreal’s fight however, will not be shown on HBO. more >>

Kennon, Flores fire 64 to take Labor Day tournament

Mark Kennon and Joe Flores Jr. shot a final round 64 to win the championship flight of the Labor Day Invitational at Riverside Golf Course on Sunday. Kennon and Flores finished the three round tournament with a 191, while Denovan Dekowski and Steve Franz shot a 195. Franz and Dekowski finished with a 68 on Sunday. more >>

A three-way tie atop the championship flight sets up a strong final round today at the Labor Day Invitational at Riverside Golf Course. Texana fans treated to ASCS racing

EDNA – The atmosphere at Texana Raceway Park was a little different on Saturday as the American Sprint Car Series prepared to hit the dirt track. Nothing against the regulars, but the ASCS brought a row of cars not normally witnessed at the Edna track for the Labor Day Weekend of Speed. more >>

Royce Gregory has been named the new director of baseball operations at the Shiner Starplex. Gregory’s baseball experience as a coach and player spans 53 years. Morris wins national cutting horse title

FORT WORTH – Victoria’s Casey Morris rode Wilds My Thing to the championship title of the John Deere Division of the 2008 National Cutting Horse Association Summer Spectacular. Morris accumulated 219 points to win the division title at the event held earlier this month. more >>
