Morning traffic stop leads to big marijuana bust

An early morning traffic stop in Victoria led to the discovery of almost 50 lbs. of marijuana. A Victoria police officer stopped a 2000 Pontiac with two individuals in it for a traffic violation, unauthorized window tint, at about 9 a.m. Thursday on the 12400 block of U.S. Highway 59 N., said Patrol Sgt. Man falls from balcony

A man who fell from his second-story balcony Tuesday afternoon was conscious when paramedics reached him, but was taken to Citizens Medical Center by ambulance. Joann Wagoner heard a loud thump outside her home at Autumn Park apartments in the 4400 block of North Navarro Street. She rushed outside after she heard a man yell for help. more >>

He is accused of having a bag of marijuana, a bag of white powder, prescription pills and a 380 semi automatic hand gun in his vehicle. VICTORIA – Ruben Hernandez Jr., 20, of Victoria, by officers Sunday on warrants charging him with violation of probation and violation of probation on an engaging in organized criminal activity conviction. Mistrial declared in sex assault case

A judge declared a mistrial in an aggravated sexual assault of a child case before testimony even began Monday. Judge Kemper Stephen Williams reset the jury trial of Dewey Joseph Sauce Jr. for Sept. 3. Sauce, of Victoria, is charged with accused of sexually assaulting a girl in January 2006, according to an indictment filed in April 2006. more >>

Man hurt in motorcycle wreck

A motorcyclist was hurt after hitting a median in the 9200 block of North Navarro Street early Tuesday. The man wrecked his motorcycle in front of Sam’s Club at about 4:20 a.m. while driving south. The driver, whose name was not available, was taken to Citizens Medical Center by ambulance with serious injuries. more >>

VICTORIA – A 75-year-old Victoria man by officers Tuesday on suspicion of assault by threat. The man is accused of threatening to kill city code enforcement employees at 700 Main St. The man told an officer he wanted to kill three workers, then said, “Arrest me if you want,” according to a police report. He would not tell the officer if he had a weapon. When a jail employee asked the man if he had a weapon he said, “I have suspenders I can use to choke somebody with,” according to the report. The man also threatened to kill anyone who towed his truck. VICTORIA – A 19-year-old Victoria man by officers Tuesday on suspicion of possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana. more >>

Victoria Crime Stoppers and the Victoria Police Department are seeking information about three persons involved in a case of identity theft. Police investigation shows that starting in June of this year at least one of three suspects shown here has been opening credit accounts using another person’s information without their permission. more >>

A woman who lost her insurance license for making phony claims now faces criminal charges. Leslie Dawn Bennetsen-Hurley, 46, was charged with insurance fraud and tampering with governmental records on Friday. Justice of the Peace Robert Whitaker arraigned the Victoria resident. more >>
