Texas freshwater fishing report

AUSTIN (AP) — Here is the weekly fishing report as compiled for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for July 16. (Report also available on Web as www.txfishing.com.)

Water clear. Black bass are slow. Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish are fair on frozen shrimp and minnows. Yellow catfish are slow.

Water clear 82 degrees 4.14 feet low. Black bass are fair on topwaters, watermelon candy flukes, and Whacky Sticks among flooded bushes and along grassy banks early. Striped bass are slow. White bass are slow. Smallmouth bass are fair on JDC grubs, GamblerCrickets, and white crankbaits in 10-21 feet early.

(At Colorado Bend State Park) Water stained. Black bass are slow. Striped bass are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie are slow. Catfish are excellent on trotlines baited with perch, and from the bank on rod and reel baited with perch.

Water clear 95 degrees. Black bass are fair on spinnerbaits early and late. Channel and blue catfish are good on Black Saltys and cut shad over baited holes in the trees.

Water murky 83 degrees 0.99 feet low. Black bass are slow. Hybrid striper are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish are fair on dead shad, live minnows, and nightcrawlers in the weeds in 2 feet. Yellow catfish are slow.

Water stained 85 degrees 17.32 feet low. Black bass are good on Senkos, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and soft plastics. Striped bass are fair on shad and watermelon topwaters. White bass are fair on chartreuse topwaters and spinnerbaits. Catfish are good on stinkbait, liver, and frozen shrimp over baited holes. Yellow catfish are good on trotlines baited with live perch. Mexican fishing licenses are required to fish Mexican waters. Everyone in the boat must have a Mexican fishing license whether fishing or not. Mexican boat permits are no longer required.

Water lightly stained 92 degrees 2.75 feet low. Black bass are fair on small white/chartreuse spinnerbaits, shallow running crankbaits, and pumpkin Whacky Sticks with chartreuse tails along main lake points in 2-6 feet early. White bass are slow. Crappie are slow. Channel catfish are very good on live bait in 4-15 feet. Yellow and blue catfish are very good on live bait up river.

Water clear 88 degrees (96 degrees at discharge) 2.60 feet low. Black bass are slow. Striped bass are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish are slow. Yellow catfish to 6 pounds are fair on trotlines baited with live perch.

Water clear in the south end, lightly stained in the north end 83 degrees. Black bass are good on Brush Hogs and shallow running crankbaits. Striped bass are slow. Channel and blue catfish to 2 pounds are excellent on stinkbait. Yellow catfish are slow. Mexican fishing licenses are required to fish Mexican waters. Everyone in the boat must have a Mexican fishing license whether fishing or not. Mexican boat permits are no longer required.

Water clear 0.80 feet low. Black bass are fair onc hartreuse and watermelon Carolina rigged soft plastics and spinnerbaits. Striped bass are fair on minnows. Crappie are fair on minnows over brush piles. Catfish are good on stinkbait, chicken livers, and shrimp.

Water fairly clear 85 degrees 0.08 feet high. Black bass are good on soft plastics, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits. Striped bass are slow. White bass are good on hellben ders, petspoons, and Charlie slabs. Crappie are fair on minnows. Blue catfish are good on shad. Yellow catfish are slow.
